Navigating Burnout and Breakups: Lessons Learned on the Divorce Journey
Apr 12, 2024Happy Friday How to Be A Better Person Readers:
Wendy Jones here, and I wanted to share with you a taste of a new The Optimist’s Journal blog coming out on Sunday!
As I sit down to reflect on the tumultuous journey of the past eight years, I find myself compelled to share some of the hard-earned wisdom I've gained along the way. It's been a path marked by trials and errors, moments of despair, burnout, and unexpected breakthroughs. Through it all, however, I've discovered processes and philosophies that have been instrumental in mitigating burnout, even when it felt like the world was crumbling around me.
One of the most pivotal realizations I've had is the importance of repairing the nervous system. In the aftermath of a challenging breakup or divorce, it's easy to underestimate the toll it takes on our emotional and physiological well-being. I've personally grappled with hypervigilance, anxiety, and depression, both during and before my divorce. Understanding the intricacies of our nervous system has been fundamental not only for my own healing but also for supporting my children through this journey.
Learning to regulate our emotions is key, and there's a myriad of modalities available to aid in this process, many of which require little to no financial investment. Grounding techniques, yoga, meditation, journaling, ensuring adequate hydration, prioritizing good sleep hygiene, and making healthy food choices have all played a significant role in restoring balance to my life. These practices not only help in navigating the immediate aftermath of a breakup but also lay the foundation for long-term resilience and well-being.
If you find yourself in the throes of a breakup or divorce, especially while parenting young children, I offer these thoughts in the hope that they may provide some solace and guidance. Remember, even when it feels like everything is falling apart, there is a path forward. Sometimes, it just takes time and a willingness to embrace the process of rebuilding.
Additionally, please consider how I can help support you through my online course "High Performance Zen," offered through Be Better Life, where I delve deeper into these strategies and share personal insights gleaned from my own journey. I invite you to join me as we explore how to repair, rejuvenate, and ultimately thrive in the face of adversity.
Together, we can navigate the storms of life and emerge stronger, wiser, and more resilient than ever before. Will you join me and the Be Better Life team?
With optimism,
Wendy Jones
